When I feel myself losing my peace, the fastest way to quell the anxiety is to dig deeper into my relationship with God. What does that mean? The Bible says:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

(Philippians 4:6-7)

When my peace is slipping away, I must lift up my voice to God with a thankful heart and remind myself of how much is going right in my life—because of His presence. When I do this—God writes His peace in my heart—when I would otherwise be losing my mind!

Thankfulness should be one of my FIRST reactions to anxiety.

As soon as it begins to creep in, if I thank God for His presence, recount His many blessings to me, and ask for His guidance, I begin to feel His peace settle in my soul. He anchors me. Of course, if my anxiety has been caused by my sin—then my conversation with God must begin with confession so I am reconciled to His presence.

As my heart becomes more thankful, it becomes more humble. When humility builds its house inside me, GOD is ruling the home of my heart. He is never anxious. When He is in control, His peace takes me through the storms. There is immeasurable peace from the knowledge that One wiser and stronger than myself—is in control. I drop the burden of being in charge and being responsible for everything and trust God, who is really in charge. Thankfulness humbles us and allows God to write His peace in our heart.
