One of my favorite resurrection verses is: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15: 54b-55) It reminds me that Jesus conquered our strongest enemy—death. When He took the “sting” of death upon Himself, He gave up everything—even the eternal relationship He had with His Father—all so we could live. Such sacrificial love sets the bar of heroism beyond any sacrifce ever given!

Is death your biggest fear? How IS it that Paul could say, “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain?”  (Philippians 1: 21) We fear death for many legitimate and natural reasons. Death is caused by sin and sin wasn’t God’s choice for us back in Eden—or now! However, once we are children of God, we CAN live free from the fear of death because nothing—not even death—can EVER separate us from God.

So if we KNOW this promise—why don’t we live free from the fear of death?

For most of us, it’s because we aren’t close to the One who conquered death! If your best friend was a member of the U.S. Special Operation Forces, you would feel safer walking through a dark alley with him by your side—right? Well, Jesus swallowed up death in victory when He rose from the grave. He’s the bravest man who ever lived. When we belong to His family, we don’t have to walk enslaved by the fear of death. He is our conquering Hero, and the better we know Him, the less we fear death.
