Our circumstances often rule our life; thus, when they change for the worse, we can be dragged into a very dark place. God has a better plan for us! When we are born again, we no longer have to put our greatest hope in our circumstances, because we KNOW the “God of hope.” The Bible says:

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” (Romans‬ ‭15:13‬)

God should be our greatest hope because He never changes—while our circumstances—well, they always change! What if tomorrow you received an email terminating your employment? What if a family member died in a tragic wreck? What if you lost every asset you owed and had less than a week’s wages to live on? Would these terrible circumstances push you over the edge? Or, is your hope so solidly in God that you would cling to Him while you walk through the pain? When we learn to recognize God is our most important source for everything we need, we learn to “abound in hope” because we know He never changes!

Undoubtedly, we feel incredible pain and struggle when we suffer great loss, but when God is the “anchor of our soul,” we don’t lose hope. (Hebrews‬ ‭6:19) When our greatest hope is in God’s steadfast and proven love, then the effect of our tragic circumstances are more like a passing thunderstorm instead of a destructive Tsunami. God never changes and—our greatest hope should always be—in Him alone.
