Because of all my past sin, I often doubted that I could do much good for God. I have done some crazy, regrettable, stupid things! However, God used my evil for good in ways I never imagined. You see, it was only when I had been completely crushed by my sin that I was finally able to begin my journey to a productive and meaningful relationship with God. At the bottom, I experienced this verse:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalms 34:18)

At my pitiful and weak cry for help, God tenderly took my sin-stained soul up into His arms. I had no pride left. Thus, I experienced yet, another of His precious promises: “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” (James 4:6) Ah yes, I had to lose myself before I could find Him; and when I received Him, I discovered my worth! Our worth is not in us—that’s pride.

Our true value is found in knowing we belong to God.

If you think your life is so scarred by your sin that you can never glorify God; you’re right! YOU can’t glorify God; but GOD can work through you to glorify Himself. The worse the scars, sometimes just means the greater the miracle He performs! I know—my sin left huge gashes in myself and many others that I hurt. But when I began to humbly and passionately seek God, in His mercy, He began turning evil against itself. Through me, He is working miracles beyond my imagination.
