As I was sitting outside one morning listening to the birds sing, I thought: “They are ALWAYS singing. Do they EVER worry?” Many a night I’ve spent tossing and turning because I couldn’t turn my mind off for worrying. But as I listened to the birds that morning, God reminded me that I need to be more like them.

Why don’t birds worry? Well, perhaps, it’s because they live in God’s Creation and do exactly what they were created to do. Why do I worry? Well, I was created for His glory and if my life is not glorifying Him, then I’m not doing what I was created to do so of course—I worry!

He didn’t create us to worry.

The Bible says: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:25-27) I think that the birds know their Creator better than I do; thus it would be better off if I learned to think more like the birds do!

The birds are always singing because they’re in tune with God. I must learn to be too!

The more I maintain contact with God throughout the day, the less I worry. It means beginning the day in prayer and His Word. Then, as the day’s challenges begin, I must diligently maintain constant contact with Him. God doesn’t worry and if I allow it, He will replace my worry with His peace. When I have His peace, my heart sings just like the birds!
