If I could have any two wishes (physical things)what would I ask for? Honestly, it would be: 1) A soul mate, and 2) Enough money to not have to work so much. Hmmm….so if God is good and He loves me, why don’t I have these things now? After all, they aren’t evil desires. I’ve prayed for these things for about seven years now. So, what’s going on here?

Ah, God is so good to give me a glimpse of His wisdom and perspective! God knows my desires, but He has been developing my character and teaching me the value of keeping Him first so that the desires of my heart will will never become more important than He is. Whoa! Yep, it’s true. The Bible promises us:

The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.” (Lamentations 3:24-25)

God is good. Better than I deserve. As I look back, I know that if God had given me a soul mate before I built this amazing love relationship with Him, I may have been too distracted to discover Him as my greatest source of love. Until I learned to seek Him first for all my needs, I could not be complete to love someone else. God knows when (or if) I will be ready for that blessing. I trust Him. He loves me more than anyone else does. His blessings come in His time. It is the same with desire number two. If God gave me a lot of money, would I make my leisure time my god?

 If I really believe

“God is good to those who hope in him,”

Then I will wait and live each day with my hope that God has me exactly where I need to be. I do not need to be frantically pursuing anything else. What an incredibly peaceful place to be. If God has given us the desires of our hearts, we must make sure they do not take His place. If He has not; then wait and seek Him. He has blessings for us, we have never imagined!
