What is the greatest gift a mother could receive from her child on Mother’s Day? One Mother’s Day, after I sent her the morning devotion, my wise mother texted me and said it quite well

You have found the gift above all giftsthe priceless treasure not to be compared to silver or gold; the treasure that brings the greatest joy to this mother. 3 John 1:4 “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth.” Love you very much,  Mom.

My sweet mother is absolutely right! I cannot think of any greater gift I’d want for my children (or for anyone else) than to know they walk in truth.

What does “walking in truth” really mean? Most world views hold that “truth” is relative and differs from culture to culture. If we believe that truth is relative, then we are opposed to Christ who said in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth.” Do we think we know more than God who created us and everything we see? He gave us a map (the Bible) and a Navigator (Holy Spirit) to help us discover the truth!

Why would we choose any other source of truth?

My dear mother witnessed me run from God for nearly my entire life and thus, for her it is a GREAT joy to see me walking in truth. I ran from God because I was ignorant of His great love and I believed I was smarter than Him and my way was better. My false reality led me down many heartbreaking paths. It’s so humbling to know that despite my horrible failings, God still wants me. He never stopped. He is THE TRUTH. Walking in truth is the best gift we can give to our mother—and to ourselves!
