We hear much discussion about weight loss, but the undeniable truth about dieting is: Cheating hurts us!  If I look in the mirror in the morning and see the extra weight on my body and determine I will be faithful to my diet, and then later in the day when I eat a piece of pie and cheat; I’m defeating myself because I’ve ignored or forgotten the truth about what was in the mirror.

This spiritual lesson is compelling!

The Bible says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” (James 1:22-25)

Truth: Cheating myself out of weight loss happens because I choose to forget or ignore the truth that more food equals more weight.

Truth: Cheating myself out of the blessings of life happens when I forget or ignore God’s truth that obedience equals more freedom and blessings

The primary truth for dieting is if we eat it, we’ll wear it. God’s primary truth for living is if we love Him and love others (which sums up the entire law, we are to obey), we will live free and blessed. There is no cheating God; but when we fall in love with Him, no one loves or blesses us more than He does.
