Sometimes my biggest problem is that my problem has become my god. Say what? Think of one of your biggest problems right now and name it out loud. It may be something you want, but do not have, or something that you have and do not want. Either way, clearly identify it for the purpose of this thought. Now, think about this: How much does it shape your day, change your emotions, consume your thoughts, control your actions, or prevent your sleep? For example, if you have a money problem are you working three jobs and have no time for God? Or, do you have a health problem and spend all your time so consumed by it that you can’t even focus on praying or helping anyone else? Has someone broken your heart and now you can barely function? These examples describe experiences where our problem becomes the god we worship, serve and obey. The problem has been put on the throne where God belongs.

In our mind, we have made God smaller and weaker than our problems.

When our understanding of and relationship with God is stronger than our understanding of and relationship with our problems, we find that our problems are no longer the center of our existence. Our thoughts and actions are no longer enslaved to the problem; but rather, we are wrapped up so tightly in our relationship with God that His presence is our greatest passion. Our problems—even really, really hard ones—become secondary. Because we know Him, we have no doubt that He can handle anything. God is multi-dimensional and runs a universe so enormous that we can’t comprehend it, and He does this WHILE He personally loves each of the 6 billion-plus people walking around on this planet.

Do you know this God?

The Bible says: “You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.” (Psalms 40:5) When we seek God with all our heart, soul and mind, our problems are put in His perspective. From God’s perspective, YOUR big problem isn’t a big problem—after all, He runs the universe every day. The solution to ALL of our problems is to let God solve our HEART problem—then, we can watch Him sort out all the small stuff.
