Am I allowing God’s love to make me fearless? One morning I was sitting in a hotel in the French Quarter about to embark on a job for a client which involved powerful people and a lot of money. I began to get worried and afraid. I absolutely hate that sick feeling of fear! Oh, how grateful I am that God persistently reminds me that His love makes it completely irrational for me to be fearful. How does God’s love make us fearless? The Bible says:

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18)

As long as I fear God—not meaning I am cowering and afraid of Him; but rather, that I am in such awe of Him that I adore Him and hang on His every Word—then, I KNOW I have NO reason to be afraid. I live in the knowledge that He is greater than my fears. His love secures me in a place of magnificent confidence. That doesn’t mean I won’t have pain or trouble—He didn’t promise that. He DID promise “to never leave or forsake us.”

His love allows us to trust Him so that our fear of everything and everyone else is dwarfed by His greatness! Almighty God, Who gave His only Son for me, did not go through all that sacrifice for me to waste my life running around like a scared rabbit! As I stay close to Him, He gives me confidence which is forged by the experience of His faithfulness. In the face of any storm I can say: “Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)
