We often don’t realize the magnitude of God’s blessings until we try to live independently from Him. It’s much like a child does not realize the magnitude of the provisions made by his parents until he is forced to rent an apartment, buy a vehicle, and pay for his own food. There is a vast contrast between what a parent can give a young adult and what the he can earn on his own—right? This was such a powerful example for me to be able to understand the great value of living dependent upon God. When I choose my own way, I also choose to earn my own meager blessings. Is my independence worth the cost of living so hard?

The more I begin to comprehend God’s blessings, the more my heart is filled with gratitude and then—the less I want to live independently from Him!

As God’s children, we choose whether we will enjoy God’s blessings or just get by living in own pitiful blessings because—God doesn’t force the benefits of His love upon us. But—when we surrender our heart, we see His goodness and then—we desire to please Him. Our dependent relationship with Him is fueled by His goodness.

The Bible says: “And whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.” (1 John‬ 3‬:22-23)

If we wish to receive the blessings of God, we will live each day in complete surrender and dependence upon Him. Like a loving parent, God loves us more than we can comprehend!
