What thoughts come to mind when we hear the name Adolf Hitler? What about the name Billy Graham? Hillary Clinton? And—what do people think when they hear OUR name? What reputation we have established? The Bible says: “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” (Proverbs‬ ‭22:1‬)

Have you chosen a path that has given you a “good name?”

I can attest from my own very painful, personal experience, that once your good name is lost, it takes years to get it back. In fact, in the eyes of some folks, I’ll never get mine back! BUT—I have hope because GOD, in His infinite mercy, has allowed me to carry HIS good name! Despite my shameful past, when I decided to repent, turn to Him, and desired and loved Him with all my heart, He began to establish the reputation of His Holy name within me. Now that I’ve experienced His presence, I desire to live in such a way to bring honor to His name.

Jesus gave us a litmus test for determining if we have a good name—it’s called “love.” He said: “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John‬ ‭13:35‬) When God’s love is manifested through us, we gain the reputation of godliness. There is no one with a better reputation than God. It’s impossible to represent God without knowing Him and spending time in His presence. God is Love, and any “love”—without Him—is only a poor imitation and people will see we’re pretending to be someone we’re not. When people hear my name, I want them to think of God and KNOW—His love is real!
