Have you ever experienced the comfort of God—which is more real and powerful than the comfort from a good friend? Paul wrote, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:3-4‬) He is “the God of ALL comfort!” Is that how YOU experience Him—as your greatest source of comfort? For many years of my Christian life—I confess—I did NOT!

To experience God’s powerfully comforting Spirit, we must LIVE in His Spirit.

How can we expect God to comfort us if we are living in disobedience and stiff-arming Him? Have you ever tried to hug a child who is screaming and writhing in anger? Yeah—that’s a good picture of how we are with God! God does not force the comfort of His love on us, but we can only expect to feel the full force of His comfort if we’re in the warmth of His arms!

When we open our heart, kick out the sin, and let God in, and began to experience His marvelous comfort—we NEVER want to let Him go! We begin to SEEK His will and LONG for His presence. We can’t get enough of Him. Seeking God becomes the necessity which preoccupies our purpose. His presence within our heart is so comforting that we want to lock the door and throw away the key. Living in God’s comfort makes the words of Psalm 23 our personal experience. “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” (‭Psalms‬ ‭23:3-4‬) Draw near to God and make HIS comfort—YOUR experience!
