God taught me a powerful lesson from a crippled doe. I was having my quiet time and reflecting upon how much joy I had been experiencing by living surrendered to God. Sure, there was still about 10% of my life that I was struggling to give Him, but I reasoned it was okay for me to hold onto some of my own will, because I’d given God 90% of everything else. Sounds reasonable, right???

The moment after this thought went through my mind, a lame doe followed by her two fawns appeared in a clearing fifty feet from my back deck. It was painful to watch her walk with such a terrible limp. I could see it would be difficult for her to move quickly enough to escape harm. God seemed to say: “Her injury is less than 10% of her body, yet see how it hinders the rest of her perfectly healthy body and also endangers her fawns who follow her everywhere she goes?”

What a powerful God-thought! It about knocked me out of my chair!

This lame doe didn’t choose to be lame; however, I was choosing to hold onto 10% of living unsurrendered to God, so it could cripple my ability to glorify God. My crippling choices could ALSO endanger the future of those who are following me! Oh wow! The Bible says: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:19-20‬) We cannot glorify God in our body while we are harboring the sin that crucified Him in our heart. The Bible plainly reveals the critical impact of sin upon our close relationship with God:

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.” (Psalms‬ ‭66:18-20‬)

Is the part of our life that we’re holding onto worth jeapordizing our intimate relationship with the Creator and Sustainer of all things? That 10% will never be worth the price of being a lame Christian when we have the choice to live healthy and free!
