When we live in the righteousness of God, the power of His Spirit is unchained within us. Do you experience GOD’S power within you? Unfortunately we often must be taken captive by the enemy of sin before we realize how little power we possess without God. The truth is, we are often powerless before the enemy lifts a finger against us.
Our weakness begins in our heart.
How? When anything else becomes more important than God. This happened to the nation of Israel.
The Babylonian captivity of the Jewish people was their apex of powerlessness in the 600 years before Christ. However, they lost God’s power long before the Babylonian army conquered them. This tragedy began when they abandoned God in their heart. It was a cycle for the Old Testament Jews; and, unfortunately it’s a cycle modern Christians fall into as well. For the Jews, it took slavery for them to acknowledge their desperate need for God. If often does for us as well.
God’s message to Zerubbabel, the leader of the first wave of Jews out of captivity was: ”Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.” (Zechariah 4:6) God was pointing them back to Himself. As exiled slaves, their plight was so helpless it seemed impossible that their city or temple could ever be rebuilt.
God made it clear that—it WAS possible—but NOT without HIM.
We, too, are powerless without God. But—God has a powerful plan for our life. When He is Lord of our life, we no longer have to rely on our own strength. When He is King of our heart, His Spirit empowers us to do what seems impossible. When we discover the thrill of God’s power, our heart longs to continually acknowledge and worship Him as King of our life.
“God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.” (Psalms 62:11)
