The more we know God, the less we fear because HE knows everything, and HE fears nothing. God taught me this truth one morning, at about 0200, when I heard what sounded like someone breaking into my home. It nearly paralyzed me with fear, but I knew I couldn’t just lay there hoping for the best. So I grabbed my 12-gauge and—room by room—I secured the house. After finding no danger, I went back to bed and slept peacefully. How could I sleep so well? I was able to rest in the KNOWLEDGE that I was safe. This may seem like an oversimplified example, however, if this small matter of securing my home gave me freedom from fear, wouldn’t it make sense that when we know God—we should be even more free from fear?

Of course it does.

But you won’t know this freedom from fear if you don’t know God.

King David, who was a mighty warrior, walked this path of peace with God. For example, after narrowly escaping imprisonment by his enemies, he said: “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” (Psalms‬ ‭34:4-8‬) David’s experience with God during times of danger was “the angel of the Lord encamped” around him. How did he know this? It was because he “feared” God, meaning God was the most important part of his life.

The more we seek to know and obey God, the more we have peace because our experience with Him reveals that He knows everything and can do anything. We don’t need to fear the unknown because we know that nothing is unknown to Him. When our relationship with God is more important to us than anything else, we are not paralyzed by fear of anything else because we clearly see His power working all around us.

The knowledge of God’s power dissolves our fear.
