When my life is lived based upon what GOD thinks, I don’t have to worry about what PEOPLE think. I often get so preoccupied with obtaining the approval of fickle and imperfect people (like myself) that I never even give myself a chance to live the amazing life GOD has planned for me.

God’s Word gives us His thoughts which teach us how to live free of what others think about us. In Psalms 119, the author repeats a common theme—that is, how his love of God’s commandments gives him security and freedom amidst his critics and enemies. He writes, “Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.” (Psalms‬ ‭119:165)

The Psalmist’s compares the love of God’s Word to the lesser things of the world, which he characterizes as “dust” and “worthless.” He writes: “My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word!” (Psalms‬ ‭119:25‬) And: “Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.” (Psalms‬ ‭119:37‬)

The Psalmist recognizes something we often do not—God’s commandments anchor us close to Him and gives us the greatest security we can ever possess.

Not only does it give us security, but it also changes our friends circle. He writes: “I am a companion of all who fear you, of those who keep your precepts.” (Psalms‬ ‭119:63‬)

God’s promises to us are precious and empowering: “If God is for us, who can be against us? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” (Romans 8:31, 35) ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬When God is the most important part of our life, His love draws our heart to be most concerned about what HE thinks about us. When we love His commands, we are secure in who He made us.
