The word “sacrifice” implies we’re giving up more than we get, and so we need to decide if it’s worth it. This has not been my experience in walking with God. Instead, I receive much more than I ever give up. That’s certainly not the way we typically view sacrifice.

Jesus’ sacrifice set the stage to enable us to experience this miracle.

His sacrifice gave us the ability to live in love—which is selflessness—or, to live sacrificially. The Bible says: “And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” (Ephesians‬ ‭5:2‬) The ability to “walk in love” as Christ did for us—is an immeasurable gift.

It pays great returns.

When Peter questioned giving his all, Jesus explained, “everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold.” (Matt. 19:29) A hundredfold return on our investment return is nothing to blow off!

Would you invest everything you have in a sure-fire investment that would pay a hundred times over? If we know God wins in the end—why wouldn’t we be willing to invest all we have in our walk with Him? Perhaps our short-sighted view of God has made us slaves to the “wisdom” of the world and we’ve been deluded into investing most everything we have into what is temporal. This investment will crash worse than any market in the history of Wall Street.

Experiencing God’s return can change our investing habits.

When we begin to live loving God with our whole heart, all our resources, and the time we’re given by Him—we find it’s no sacrifice at all; rather, it’s a great investment. It pays not only eternal dividends, but it also allows us to experience the priceless blessings of peace, wisdom, joy, strength, and love during our walk on earth.

When we live in love with God, we know that what we’re getting—is way better than what we’re giving away.
