Jesus promised to give us HIS power, but are we actually living in HIS absolute power—or are we satisfied living like everyone else—in our own? Does the work of our life manifest God’s miraculous power, or are works simply reflective of what anyone else can accomplish with their own intellect, health and resources? When we are born again and we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we don’t have to live in just ordinary, human power.

Jesus said: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…” (Acts‬ 1:8‬)

The word “power” in this verse derives from the greek word “dunamis” which is translated into english as “absolute power” or “miraculous power” (Strong’s Concordance). This same word is also used by Paul in Ephesians when he wrote, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.” (Ephesians 3:20‬) If we believe God has equipped us with absolute power, we really should be asking:

Why isn’t “absolute” or “miraculous” power manifested in my life?”

Short answer: We choose to weaken ourselves with sin instead of living a Holy life. If absolute power comes from the “Holy” Spirit, then in order for it flow through us, we must choose holiness. Paul described Jesus miraculous power as being according to the “Spirit of holiness.” (Romans‬ 1:4) Choosing holiness doesn’t mean we act like we’re better than everyone else or cloister ourselves away from the world. Jesus and the apostles lived in miraculous power–among the world. God’s power fills us when we allow The HOLY Spirit to control our mind and heart. If we pack our mind with garbage, nonsense and evil, we displace God’s Holy presence. We can’t have both.

Furthermore, when we live in unholiness, we cultivate unbelief in God, which undermines our ability to be empowered. How? Well, when we truly believe in something—we LIVE like it is REAL. When God is the most real part of our life, we love Him with all of our heart and then, we desire to emulate Him. He becomes more and more embodied in what we do and say.

When we choose to live in holiness; our life manifests the absolute power of the Holy Spirit.
