Unless we learn to find the wisdom of the Spirit, we are in the very tenuous position of relying on our own wisdom for all our life decisions. “Wisdom” without the Spirit, is based on the knowledge we gain from our experiences, the “experts” like our friends, our doctors, UTube videos, etc,, and perhaps even the ever-fickle public opinion on social media. We often apply this knowledge to our circumstances with a heavy dose of our emotions and feelings. This is “worldly wisdom” because it is based solely in the physical realm—without engaging God’s Spirit.

Is “worldly wisdom” all we can ever hope to have?

Unfortunately, many of us believe it is because we don’t realize that God gives us the opportunity to have HIS “spiritual wisdom.” The Bible says we can be “filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” (Colossians 1:9-10)

We gain the “knowledge of His will” by reading His Word; we gain His spiritual wisdom by obeying it.

Obedience to God’s Word demonstrates our love for Him (John 14:15) and is, in and of itself—living wisely. However, this love through obedience also equips us with more than just God’s profound wisdom—we are given the  supernatural leading of His Spirit to do things we could not never do without Him. Paul wrote: “My speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)

When we love God, we learn to live in His holiness and—the Holy Spirit gives us all spiritual wisdom.
