When it seems evil is drowning out all the good in the world and we despair trying to make sense of it all—that’s when we desperately need to enter God’s sanctuary of prayer. God’s the only one who can make any sense of the evil chaos.

The Psalmist wrote: “Behold, these are the wicked; always at ease, they increase in riches. All in vain have I kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence. For all the day long I have been stricken and rebuked every morning. If I had said, ‘I will speak thus,’ I would have betrayed the generation of your children. But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task, until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end.” (Psalms‬ ‭73:12-17‬)

Prayer gives us discernment about the end of of evil.

Prayer takes us into God’s presence and there, we gain a greater awareness that evil will be defeated by righteousness. God’s divine nature shines into the darkness revealing the paper tigers of evil as the weak and beggarly enemies they really are. We gain a sense of perspective that unburdens us from despair. When we engage our soul in passionate prayer, we’re reminded that God is so powerful that in the end—all evil will be turned upon itself.

Prayer is a gift. Use it often. Pray your way deep into the presence of God who is the greatest sanctuary for your soul.
