If you had cancer, would you inject your body with more of the disease, or would you be desperately eradicate every infected cell in your body? It would be insane to purposely inject such a lethal enemy into your body—right? But isn’t that exactly what we do when we allow sin into our heart and mind?

Christ willingly died a horrible death and was separated from His Father in hell so we could be saved from the infection of sin. The Bible says the “wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) So to invite the venom of sin into the garden of our mind and heart is crazy. Sin separates us from God’s presence. The absence of God, is the absence of love—and this is the hell on earth we create for ourselves when we choose to sin.

God gives us the ability to choose to live with a healthy heart.

This choice to change begins with an honest acknowledgement of any sinful way. We tend to see the obvious ones, like pornography, hate, theft, etc., as being the most lethal invaders; but what about the subtle varieties like anxiety, worry, bitterness, unforgiveness, and fear? These sneaky emotions eat us from the inside. Just like cancer.

Jesus is the healer. The Bible says: “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:24) When our inner man is made righteous by Jesus,  we are empowered by Him to live with a healthy heart.
