Prayer is God’s amazing gift to His children. But how often do we say, “I’ll pray for you,” and—we never do. Why don’t we? It may be because we don’t really believe in the power of prayer.

When we truly believe in something—we do it. Jesus promised us: “Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” (John‬ ‭14:12-14‬) It’s absolutely electrifying to think about the possibilities for all the good we could accomplish if we believed enough in Almighty God to faithfully and frequently pray.

We need to just do it.

We must ask God to deeply rooted our heart in Him so our faith in Him grows and affects every aspect of what we do. Then, our first response to any problem or need will be to pray in His name. It becomes our expectation—that He is a promise keeper. It becomes our experience—He answers.

But remember—if you are not His child, meaning you have not received His gift of salvation—there is a problem. There is no familial relationship to support the prayer. It would be like my son asking his friend’s father to pay for his meals, give him a home, and pay for his braces. We must become part of God’s family in order to claim His promises.

When we are born again, God is our Father. Our heartfelt prayers in the name of His Son invoke a power greater than any in Heaven or earth. Jesus said: “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.” (John‬ ‭15:7-8‬)

When we abide in Christ, He answers our prayers and—the testimony of His provision glorifies the Heavenly Father.
