God is teaching me to pray using His Word. When we read and intensely study His Word, we learn to “hide it in our heart” (Psalms 119:11), and it flows naturally from us when we talk to Him. As we speak God’s Word back to Him, our soul is fed through the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s like when our children learn to say “I love you,” using the language we have taught them to speak.

God laid it on my heart to illustrate how His Spirit integrates His Word into our prayers by sharing a recent excerpt from my daily prayer journal:

“Oh Lord, you alone are good; and You have given your goodness to mankind and have shared with us the ability to know You—who are perfect in all of Your ways. Oh Lord, make my way as perfect as You are perfect. Lord, teach me to know you and love you as I am loved. Make my path straight and keep my feet on the solid rock of truth. You are good to me, so much better than I deserve! Oh Lord, when my heart fails me for fear—help me to draw close to You so I will not be afraid. Keep my feet from evil. Keep my heart from loving anyone more than I love you. Oh Lord, your love is better than life and thus, my lips will praise you. Oh Lord, my soul is wonderfully made—created in your image and for your purpose and glory. May I glorify you today with all that is within me.”

“Oh Lord, be the greatest love of my heart. Teach my wandering heart to passionately seek You. Oh Lord, during this crisis, shine Your light in the darkness, so all the world will know Your great love and care for them. May we, as Your people, rise up and shine hope for a lost and dying world. May the truth of the Gospel shine through us in such a way that people know You are the way, the truth, and the life. Lord I’m so grateful for the life you’ve given me. Help me to live it without fear of anything or anyone—and to know Your love cast out all fear. Lord help me to love you more and more each day so that my countenance shines with the magnitude of Your love and my soul rejoices with hope even in the midst of crises.”

My dear friends, be encouraged to pray God’s Word, because “the Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” (Psalms‬ ‭145:18‬)
