The more we submit our life to the Prince of Peace, the more consistently we experience peace—otherwise, we live in turmoil created by the prince of deception. (Revelations 12:9) We ARE serving one, or the other—and the proof is our peace—or lack thereof. When we’re born again through grace our spirit is made “alive in Christ,” and then—we have a choice to live in peace.

The Bible says: “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).” (Ephesians‬ ‭2:1-5‬)

God’s gift of grace opens the door of peace to us; but, we CLAIM it by walking in obedience to HIM instead of obedience to our old slave-masters—the world, the flesh and the devil. (1 John 2:15-17; 1 Peter 5:8)

If I had experienced this deep peace of God earlier in my Christian life, I would have likely made Him king of my life much sooner; but I was deluded, and believed MY WAY would bring me peace and satisfaction. What I failed to recognize is that my own way—was never really mine—rather, I was back under the spell of the power of darkness. By the time I decided to turn back to Him, the enemies of my soul had ripped up the fabric of my life so much, that all God had to work with was shredded canvas.

But God didn’t see a heap of canvas when He looked at me; He saw His redeemed child.

His love drew me back and—transformed my desires. I began to trust Him with my relationships, career, finances, and family. He gave me sweet peace beyond what I’d ever experienced. Admittedly, sometimes my will re-surfaces, but when I feel the cold wind of turmoil enter my soul, I run back to my Father.

God is making something beautiful out of my life, and I no longer wish to destroy it by living my own way.

If you find yourself suffering in turmoil, remember, God didn’t create you for misery. His Word gives us HIS way to live in HIS peace. “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (‭‭I Thessalonians‬ ‭5:23‬)
