Giving God our whole heart, includes giving Him what we love most, and what this means is we trust His promises to meet our greatest desires—more than we trust our own wisdom for those desires. The Bible says: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” (Psalms 37:4-5‬) God knows the most inner workings of our heart better than we do. He loves us more than we love ourselves. Thus, it makes sense that He would meet the needs of our heart better—right?

Stop and think about whether this is a struggle for you.

If there is anything in your life you refuse to give over to God? If so, it’s standing between you and God’s greatest blessings for you! This obstacle doesn’t have to be a dark, sinful behavior–it can also be someone you love, something you really like to do, something you possess, or even a burning desire for something you don’t have. When we think about your life is there anything, anyone, or any activity—you would NOT lay on the altar, in other words—not give over 100% to God? For example, would you depart from God’s ways and His will in order to facilitate a relationship with someone you love or would you rather please God than please a man? Apply this to anything in your life.

When we have experienced the presence of God, even our greatest desires for the things of this world—pale in comparison to Him. When we finally give everything to Him, in exchange, He gives us everything we never even knew we wanted. This is the fullness of HIS joy and—it only comes from Him.

In God’s presence, our thoughts are not dominated by what we gave up because we are captivated by life in the presence of our Creator!

He gives us opportunities we didn’t even know existed. He fills our minds with creative ideas from His boundless imagination. We get to lead the dying—to eternal life. We operate in HIS power to do what we never unimagined possible and wisdom to speak and understand His Word like never before. We know His Word is our greatest love letter.

When we give our whole heart to God and lay everything on the altar, we know, without a doubt, we leave with something much better. We also know that if He does not return to us what we left on the altar, then it wasn’t HIS best for us. God loves us more than we love ourselves and why, therefore, wouldn’t we entrust EVERY corner of our heart and mind to Him? God’s plan for our life is always better than our own.
