If we react negatively when we hear messages on giving, it’s because we’ve never experienced the richness of giving taught in the Bible. Paul the Apostle wrote: “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts‬ ‭20:35) You can’t experience the blessing of giving unless you have something to give away.

Doesn’t everything we possess come from God?

When we place the deepest desires of our heart upon the altar and entrust them to God, We realize that ALL our blessings, including material ones, come from Him. We also know the best blessings we receive are the ones which we possess for the sole purpose of giving away. The more blessings we are given to use to enrich others, the more blessings we may receive in the act of giving.

But because we are so carnally minded, we believe that the best blessings we may expect to receive from God are material or temporal things which benefit US—you know–a new car, more money, a better house, etc. We are eternally short sighted if we live by the gospel of storing up material blessings for ourselves. While material blessings are beneficial, they NEVER compare to the everlasting blessings which perpetuate eternal joy. These eternal blessings come from our passion to know Christ.

The most amazing blessings we experience is when we’re giving what we possess. The best reason to have more of anything, is to have more to give away! This thinking is complete nonsense until we experience the mind and heart of Christ because without Him we are in a constant “seek and survive” mode. In Him, our deepest desires are satisfied and our heart is in a position to be able to constantly give instead of expecting and needing to constantly receive. This giving mind-set perpetuates a constant flow of the blessings Christ promised us when He said “it is more blessed to give than receive.”

We only begin to discover the rich blessings of giving when we give our heart to Christ.
