The closer I get to God, the less afraid I am to get out of the boat. What do I mean? Well, when Peter saw Jesus was walking on the water, Peter said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Jesus said, “Come,” and Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water to Jesus. (Matthew‬ 14:28-29) When Jesus says “Come,” He is telling us to come alongside Him to do things we could never do without Him.

Coming alongside Jesus is an exceptional way to live.

When God is calling us to get out of the boat, it means it’s something that looks impossible, or even completely crazy—like walking on water. How many of your accomplishments can you attribute FULLY to the power of GOD? Think about Peter walking on water—WHO does that—but for GOD?

Once you’ve stepped out once and have seen God’s power…you REALLY want to do it again! And when you’ve seen His miracles consistently, your faith in God begins to train your mind to believe that He does what seems impossible. In fact, your faith trains you to understand that you’ll miss something remarkable if you don’t step out on the water.

The boat doesn’t seem safe anymore.

Faith in God makes the “safety” of the boat seem fragile. God created the elements, and man’s best defenses are easily destroyed by those very elements—i.e., earthquakes, storms, tornados, etc.

We can’t live in faith in what we see and ever expect to SEE God.

When we seek God and allow Him to control our life, we experience the power of His Presence.

As we experience the power of The Creator, then our faith opens our mind to see what we couldn’t see before we knew God. To those who have never experienced the power of God, getting out of the boat seems like something only a crazy person would do; but those who really know God are already out on the water–cheering us on!  All the  time I spent on the boat, I was blindly unaware that my faith was seriously misplaced. The safest place on earth is with God. Is there anyone or anything we trust more? Has anyone else defeated our greatest enemy—death? When we seek God, we test the outer limits of what faith in Him can do.

“With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” ~Jesus (Matthew‬ ‭19:26‬)
