When we begin to know God, we realize how amazing it is to be known and loved by Him. One of my favorite songs by Tauren Wells is “Known.” The first verse and chorus always go straight to my heart:

“It’s so unusual it’s frightening
You see right through the mess inside me
And you call me out to pull me in
You tell me I can start again
And I don’t need to keep on hiding
I’m fully known and loved by You
You won’t let go no matter what I do
And it’s not one or the other
It’s hard truth and ridiculous grace
To be known fully known and loved by You
I’m fully known and loved by You“

Isn’t it glorious that God knows us—yet loves us?

When we realize how precious we are to Him, we also recognize the great compliment He bestowed upon us by creating us in His Almighty and glorious image! (Genesis 1:27) As His children, we are called to live for His excellent glory. The Bible says: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

God has a unique purpose for each of us. When we reflect how perfectly we are known and loved by Him, it gives us a deep security and we glow with the glory He created us to live. We never want to go back to the life we lived before we realized how much He loves us. The Psalmist wrote:

“O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.” (Psalm‬ ‭139:1-6‬)
