In his farewell speech, President Ronald Reagan said: “I never meant to go into politics…but I was raised to believe you had to pay your way for the blessings bestowed on you.” Reagan said he went into politics because he wanted “to protect something precious.” Years before he was President Reagan said: “You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children’s children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done.” (The Speech, October 1964)

In these troubled times, are we doing all we can do to preserve and protect freedom for our children and our children’s children?

Are we justifying our brief moment on earth? We must begin by rediscovering the values, common sense, and integrity which first made our country a great light to the world. While there are glimmers of these qualities from other sources, Jesus is the source of ALL light. When we are led by Him, we become part of this Holy promise: “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Mathew 5:14‬) When we passionately seek God, we take the first step towards becoming light in the darkness, sense in the senselessness, and integrity amongst the lies. Anyone, irrespective of their popularity, wealth, resources, etc., can be light in darkness. In fact, most of the people in history who shined the greatest light were people who rose above their circumstances. God uses the weak to confound the mighty.

It is Jesus who gives us freedom from the ultimate slave master of darkness—sin. When we live in victory, our brief moment on earth rings out throughout temerity. Then, we are doing the greatest work we can to preserve freedom for future generations. If we want to preserve freedom for generations to come, we must begin in our own heart. ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
