Why do people seem to think that hate will somehow produce peace and goodness for—either our collective society or themselves? Hate just produces more division and hate. God has a much better plan—to give us goodness and peace. His goodness draws us to Him and ignites our desire to know Him. When we know God, we desire to love like He does and then—we produce the same goodness God gives to us.

God’s love changes us and it changes what we know about love.

Paul admonished those who were judging with hate, and in Romans 3:24, he wrote: “do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness (or goodness) is meant to lead you to repentance?” God drew us by His goodness and if we wish to draw others, we must also be full of God’s goodness. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. Don’t worry that it seems that love might be losing against the huge storm of hate overshadowing our country right now. I’m sure that’s much how it seemed to the followers of Jesus as they watched Him die on the cross. BUT—God was winning.

The sin-darkened world just couldn’t see it—and they still can’t.

The fact is—love always wins, because God ALWAYS wins.

If we want to be on the winning side of making people’s lives better—hating anyone is not the answer. Rather, we must love God more than we love anything or anyone. When we find God’s love, we discover what it means to really love another. We discover the meaning of love. God’s goodness leading us to “repentance” means that His goodness woos us to change. We are no longer driven like a slave by the insatiable desires of our flesh, but our heart seeks God’s irresistible Presence and we long to serve Him because we KNOW He loves us more than we love ourselves.

Though the darkness of hate may seem to be winning—it is love that wins in the end—because God ALWAYS wins.
