When we give God our deepest love He gives us perfect peace.

What does this mean?

I never understood the connection between my love for God and my ability to have peace—until I made HIM my greatest passion. The reason I never understood this is because I’d never made an honest effort to wholeheartedly get to know God. I had strong reservations—even an aversion to Him—because I’d let the world define my view of Him. I believed He was an overbearing judge, a spoilsport of all fun, an old fuddy-duddy, an old-fashioned rule maker, a terrifying dictator, etc. He was certainly not someone I’d really want to get to know—much less put in control of my life!

Wow—was I wrong!

So I went about my life and spent all my waking hours seeking worldly objectives—money, position, possessions, pleasure, friendship, love etc. As I attained each one—and I’d say I attained nearly everything I wanted—I found no peace. In the end—attaining my worldly goals actually—crushed me. I had no peace—only a hunger for more—until…

I experienced a REAL relationship with God!

When Isaiah wrote, “you keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you,” (26:3) he was expressing the real-time EXPERIENCE of His RELATIONSHIP with God. This was not some detached, esoteric pontification He was describing! Isaiah wrote of His passionate desire for God’s presence: “O Lord, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul. My soul yearns for you in the night; my spirit within me earnestly seeks you.” (Isaiah 26:7-8)‬ Can we describe our desire for God like this? Really—read it again. Is GOD’s presence your deepest desire for today? If not—how do you get there? In other words, how do you fall so in love with God so that He becomes your deepest desire?

Well, we desire what is desirable—right?

So if we do NOT desire Him—as Isaiah did—then, it is clear that we don’t know WHY He is so desirable. We must LEARN and REMEMBER His goodness and how much He desires us. We must absorb the fact that He laid down His LIFE to have a relationship with us! Do we know anyone else who loves us like that? When we seek Him, we begin to experience Him; and when we experience Him, we are no longer content experiencing anything less than Him! To experience Holy God, we must be willing to strip away the unholiness in our life, and passionately pursue Him with the anticipation and expectation of a child’s heart. There is no need for ANY reservation—He certainly held back nothing when He went to the cross!

Falling in love with God gives us peace beyond our wildest imagination.
