There is no one we can depend on as we can depend on God. When we rely on Him—WE become more dependable. When people fail us, we can take the opportunity to realize that we need to strengthen our relationship with God because HE never fails us. People fail us, and we fail others, but — “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews‬ ‭13:8‬)

God’s promise to those who trustingly follow Him can be found in Deuteronomy 31:8, which says: “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” It is only when we abandon Him that we begin to wonder if anyone else has our back. It is then that we realize how vulnerable we are on our own. We are only one breath away from death, one slamming door away from heartbreak, one health problem away from severe disability, one government failure away from financial ruin, one bad decision away from imprisonment, one drink away from our own destruction—right? We are dangerously vulnerable.

Who do we know who will stick with us if we fall upon the dust heap of life?

When we allow nothing to come between God and us, He becomes our strength, and our confidence is no longer wholly based on the things we can lose, like our health, wealth, or other people. When our strength is from Him, we have nothing to fear—except being far from Him, and our sin is the only thing that disrupts our closeness to God.

We decide.

When we learn to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, we KNOW “we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37) We KNOW “neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (vs. 38-39‬)

When you have lived WITH the strength of God, you never want to live in the vulnerability of being WITHOUT Him. God is our most dependable friend, and a strong relationship with Him gives us the inner strength to be confident, strong, AND reliable. ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
