It’s natural to be afraid to die, after all, it’s an unknown most of us haven’t experienced; however, the fear of death doesn’t have to rob us of peace. When we’re close to God—who conquered death—we have peace about death AND we have peace about life. When God gives us the security of eternal life with Him, he also gives us the perspective that life is so more than breath.

Before I began to seriously seek God, death used to scare me. For one, I often doubted whether I had truly been saved. Why? Well, I’d barely gotten to know the One who saved me! I was living in disobedience to Him and trying to appease Him with my leftover time, and the money I didn’t need. I was afraid of judgment—so I was afraid to die.

My disobedience set me at odds with my own peace.

I didn’t understand that the more I lived like Jesus, the more I had God’s peace. HIS peace defies explanation or understanding—even in the face of the most stressful, terrifying, and painful circumstances. This remarkable experience of peace is produced within us when we turn from our own way and humbly seek Him. In Christ, we find peace we never imagined. The Bible says: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7‬)

When we live close to God, the peace and security of life with Him causes our fear of death to subside. Experiencing God—while here on earth gives us confidence that experiencing Him in Heaven—will be even better.

The closer we are to God, Who gives life; the less we fear death.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
