We must stand for truth if we wish to do justice for anyone—especially the oppressed, but it seems—that “truth has fallen in the street.” (Isaiah 59:14) Why? Well, we have forsaken the only truth that has withstood the test of time; the only truth that’s survived many millennia—God’s Word. Instead, we make our primary sources of truth—politicians, talking heads, and social media screamers who preach a vitriolic gospel to shame us, and scare us into towing their agenda. They publish half-truths and outright lies about essential matters directly affecting our lives—like COVID-19, civil rights, and the presidential election. These purveyors of “truth” are feeding lies to the masses, and creating a culture of confusion, darkness, injustice, and fear.

This resulting culture of injustice and fear is no big surprise to God; rather, it is the natural result of abandoning HIS timeless truth.

About 2,700 years ago, God inspired Isaiah to write: “Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him that there was no justice.” (Isaiah‬ ‭59:14-15‬)

Doesn’t this sound like what’s going on today?

Should we despair to stand for truth because to disagree, we might be one who “makes himself a prey?” If we are afraid, we must ask ourselves whether we REALLY KNOW the God we say we believe in! God fears no man; neither should we. God conquered the worst evil—eternal death—and if we are HIS, we have eternal life, and no one can take it from us. Jesus promised: “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and NO ONE is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. My Father and I are one.” (John‬ ‭10:28-30‬)

When the God of truth lives within us, we need not fear because “if God is for us, who can stand against us?” (Romans‬ ‭8:31)‬‬
