On October 6, 2016, I had my last shoulder surgery, and—during this hardship—I had no idea how amazing God’s plans were going to be for me! Hardship allows us to be drawn into an even more extraordinary relationship with God. Without it, we may never have the remarkable experience of His intense love, deep wisdom and superb power, and the opportunity to experience the phenomenal joy of bringing glory to HIM.

After surgery, I recall sitting in the silence in the wee hours after of the night, and rather than being troubled about the radical changes I knew would happen in my life—I was rejoicing. WHAT? Yes, this is a testament to the miraculously different person God has made me since I began pursuing Him. It’s ALL Him. When He changes our heart, we are filled with the desire to use our circumstances—no matter how bad—for HIS Glory. In the last four years God has done amazing things with my life—as a direct result of me having a bum shoulder.

Four years later on this same day—my body is very sick—and I am forced to be still, meditate on God’s Word, enjoy His presence, and give Him the burden for all the work that’s not being done. I know He has a plan. I know that hardship is just the portal to eternal opportunities. One of my favorite reminders of this is from the Apostle Paul. Of Paul’s hardship, Jesus told him: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness,” and Paul replied: “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬)‬‬ WOW!

Through our WEAKNESS (not our strength), God’s POWER rests upon us.

Through my weaknesses and in my times of sickness, God uses His power to change me, to minister to others, and to do countless eternal works, many of which I will not know until the day I stand before Him in Glory. But in sickness, I can rejoice because God is trustworthy. I know without a doubt: “The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.” (Exodus‬ ‭15:2‬)
