When we really believe something is good—we “go after“ it. The first part of my childhood, I grew up below poverty level and—I didn’t like being looked down on by the other kids—so I was determined to “go after” a career that would change my circumstances. I didn’t let anything stop me—I worked in high school, worked three jobs while in undergraduate school, and even had a job while in law school. I burned the candle at both ends to attain what I thought was the “best goodness” for my life.

But as I reflect back over my life, I realize that while that law degree is great—it’s not the “BEST goodness” I’ve had!

When I list the things I thought were worth “going after,” and recall the immense time and energy I spent to attain them–it’s absolutely baffling to me that NOTHING I sacrificed and struggled to attain has been as good as knowing God! How insanely I lived believing ANYTHING in Creation would give me more goodness than the Creator Himself gives me. God is the Maker of ALL things good—but if we don’t LIVE like we believe that—then we’re missing life’s BEST goodness!

You won’t KNOW God’s immense goodness until you “go after” Him with the passion and unparalleled zeal to discover the TREASURES of who He is. You owe it to yourself to challenge honestly answer these questions: Do you pursue God with the same time commitment you give to your profession? Do you “go after” Him with the same adoration you pursue someone you love? Are you willing to change your schedule to pursue God? If not—you’re only hurting yourself!

Please don’t hurt yourself—God has so much goodness stored up for you!

When we step out of our blindness, we realize that our time and energy commitment tell the true story of our heart and we have been seeking goodness from the lesser thing than the Creator of all goodness. God thought WE were worth “going after” and—He gave up everything to pursue us!

The Bible says: “For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place. Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him! Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.” (‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭16:25-29‬)
