The greatest enemy of our nation is not ISIS; rather, it’s the great deception that we can somehow maintain our freedom while living independently from God. To be secure as a nation, our greatest security must be in God. He has never needed bombs or bullets to defeat an enemy. We only exist because of HIM.  The Bible says:

God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in HIM we live and move and have our being. (Acts‬ ‭17:24-28‬a)

Thus, if we don’t even exist without Him, neither can we hope to maintain freedom without Him. God gives us life, stability, wisdom, character and strength.

Living independently of God, we live in the frail strength of our flesh.

Independence from God was the original sin. Eve believed she could live better without God so she chose to disobey Him. (Genesis 3:1-7) When we choose to live against God’s ways, we have chosen to live in opposition to Him. How can we expect to have the protection of His strength when we are living as His enemies? Can a parent protect a child who leaves home?

No enemy can defeat God, and when we’re with Him we have victory.

God set the earth on its foundations, made mountains rise, valleys sink to the place He appointed for them, made springs gush forth in the valleys, caused grass to grow, the moon to mark the seasons and the sun to know when to set? (Psalms 104) To be close to God, we must search to know Him.

When we seek to know God’s ways and obey Him, the power of heaven pours into our life. The Spirit of wisdom speaks through our lips. The obedient heart of even just one person can preserve freedom for an entire nation. Remember Moses and the defeat of the mighty Egyptian army? GOD is our greatest strength and shield!
