Why do we so often blame God for the bad things that happen? Whether it’s sickness, crime, natural disasters or personal heartbreak–we blame Him. We may say we don’t, but sometimes our blame-game is more subtle–meaning, we it manifests itself by the fact that we simply stop trusting Him. We reason, “He’s not doing such a great job, so I’ll take matters into my own hands!” When we blame God, we’re doubting His character, and—it’s simply a reflection of how little we know about Him.

When we judge God for evil, we’re like a blind man walking over a cliff—and because we fail to comprehend the reality and truth about evil—we shove aside the only goodness that exists.

God gave us free will and because of this—we live in a fallen world. Our will gives us the ability to choose—even to walk away—from real love. Free will brought death to Eden. That’s why Jesus gave His life. The Bible explains: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans‬ ‭6:23‬) We live in a fallen world, corroded by sin and ruled by satan who works non-stop to deceive us about God. The Bible says: “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8b)

Satan tells us that because evil exists—we can’t trust God’s character. But evil didn’t change God—He loves us so much that He died to give us the ability to choose Him and experience love. Rather, evil revealed the depth of God’s love for the people He created in His image.

Someday, God is going to create a new Heaven and an new Earth where there won’t be any tears, tornadoes, cancer cells, crimes, or death because—all will be ruled by Him. If we belong to God, He will shine “in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:4-6)

To blame God for evil is to doubt His character—is there anyone more trustworthy than the One Who gives you life?
