Are we the kind of friend to others—that God is to us? As I read back over yesterday’s devotional and the list of things God does for me, I realize how short I fall in my friendship with others. I can’t do it on my own! To be THIS kind of friend, we must have His supernatural power. God’s presence is the key for an imperfect person to be a more perfect friend. WE must be more like HIM!

What does that look like?

When you look in the mirror, you see YOUR image. It takes no effort for you to be you–right? The mirror doesn’t lie. Every time you look in the mirror it will ALWAYS be you. Similarly, when we’re born again we have a NEW image. God’s Word tells us that by His Spirit we are changed into His image: “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:17-18‬)

But—in order for a mirror to properly reflect an image, it must be in the light and it must be clean and uncovered.

You see, when we are born again, God makes us into a mirror that is supposed to reflect Him. The closer we get to Him, the less that sin clouds the mirror and the more of HIM we see reflected in us. When He is the most important part of who we are, we naturally and easily reflect Him–just like when we look at our own face in a mirror. As we begin to reflect God, we become the kind of friend that He is to us.

When God is OUR best Friend, we become the kind of friend that loves others like HE loves us.
