I once heard someone say “faith is the mover of the mountains we create with our doubt.” This is so true! Are you facing a mountain right now in life and feel in despair and afraid? If you are a child of God, you do NOT have to live being in despair or fear!
The degree to which we doubt God is the same degree to which we decrease the faith in Him and—we need as much faith as it takes—move mountains. Our doubt makes the obstacles in our life exponentially greater than they need to be. Isn’t “doubt” simply “a lack of faith?”
But, like it or not—faith is manifested in nearly everything we do—just not the the ONE who deserves our greatest faith.
We demonstrate faith in the smallest and largest decisions in life. For example, we turn the faucet in faith that the plumbing will work; we brush our teeth in faith our toothpaste won’t poison us; we drink water that comes from miles away in faith that it’s not polluted; we allow doctors we don’t even know to cut us open; we pay lawyers we don’t really know to fight for our children; we vote for politicians we don’t know to solve the perilous problems of our nation; etc.
We have no trouble exercising faith in inanimate objects and people we don’t know BUT— do we place even an ounce of this kind of faith in God? If our mountains seem too big to move it’s because we’ve placed our faith in things less than God. Why? It’s simple—we don’t think He is trustworthy because we haven’t experienced Him AND we don’t really know Him.
If we truly knew God—we’d have no reason to doubt Him.
Jesus said, “I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.’” (Matthew 17:20b) Faith in God not only moves mountains, it can throw our mountain into the sea! Jesus said, “If you have faith and do not doubt…if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.” (Matthew 21:21-22a) So…what is holding you back?
Are you afraid because you think God is going to make you miserable? That was my problem for so many years—and, I admit—I still struggle with believing that God has the best planned for me. But, when I am close to Him and I am living in loving obedience to His Word, there is a peace that passes understanding that fills my soul and no mountain scares me. Rather, in God’s presence, I am filled with a sense of adventure. Instead of being afraid, my faith in Him allows me to ask: How will HE make provision to meet the vast need I see? How will HE work out the impossible problem that lies before me? How will HE make good come from a bad situation?
GOD is the most trustworthy object of our faith and—
A strong sense of God’s presence in our life gives us the faith to be mountain movers.
