How To Have Unshakeable Confidence
“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” (Psalm 16:8)
Over the years, I’ve noticed when times are good, my service to God tends to slack off. And— when I have trouble—it intensifies.
My office manager and I were discussing this phenomena in the context of God’s involvement with our office finances. During lean financial times, we were acutely tuned into God’s direction and then, when cash rolls in–we’ve been less so. Also, in the lean times, we’ve seen God do more than just financial miracles. His Spirit was so intense that clients saw the difference and were led to Christ right in the office! What we realized is that if financial difficulty was keeping us close to God–then perhaps, we should rethink our relationship with HIm.
Thus, we needed to readjust our mentality to seek God–for everything–not just when we are desperate!
You see, God’s presence inspires Divine passion to glorify Him–irrespective of our circumstances. Paul the Apostle wrote these amazing words: “And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. But I do NOT account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:22-24)
His physical well-being was unimportant when compared to the great mission of God’s grace to people facing eternal separation from love. Paul lived in true reality. As a result, God gave Paul a life filled with extraordinary opportunity!
Each day we intentionally draw closer to God, we become more and more addicted to His presence. We also realize more and more—just how much we NEED Him. Then, our “good times” become an opportunity to make hay while the sun shines—not slack-off. We find our greatest joy in HIM—not the distractions of the world which tend to draw us away from Him—when we don’t think we need Him to help us.
God is the only one who can make something out of nothing; but to be something–we must be emptied of everything. We are nothing without HIM, but—WITH HIM—we can live the impossible dream!
God gave us today–and WITH Him–we have the opportunity to live with more meaning and purpose than we’ve EVER known!
