There is incomparable safety choosing to live in God’s presence. God’s presence is strongest when we live in His will, which—is doing life HIS way and being led by HIS presence. God’s “ways” are written in His Word and the rest of our decisions—like whether to sell our house, where to work, or who to marry—are discovered by developing a close relationship with Him. Our obedience to His Word and active pursuit of our relationship with Him makes ALL the difference.

Like you, I have days when challenges seem to be packing the destructive force of an F5 tornado.

That’s when I must make the choice which makes ALL the difference—God’s way or mine.

When I choose to tackle the projectiles flung from the tornado—without God—I’m playing defense. I feel alone. But—God knows the path of the tornado and He always plays offense because no force is ever strong enough to take Him. If I’m taking on the tornado without God it’s because I’m either too terrified to be smart or too ignorant to be terrified. When I choose God’s way—HE takes on the storm and I watch from the safety of His arms.

When I find myself outside the peace of God’s presence, before long, I desperately desire to get back to Him. With a heart of repentance and trust, I ask His forgiveness for straying from Him. I ask Him to help me despise the sin that leads me away from Him. Sin is an enemy of my soul’s feeling of safety. Sometimes it’s “just worry” that plagues me–which, by the way, is a sneaky sin because it’s doubting the very character of God! God’s presence makes sin repulsive.

When we become accustomed to fighting battles WITH God; we don’t ever want to fight WITHOUT Him.

The Bible says:

“O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat; for the breath of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall.” (Isaiah‬ ‭25:1, 4‬)

God is so faithful. We rarely know HOW He will handle the storm–but He ALWAYS does. He does the UNimaginable. Though evil constantly threatens to crush us, we need not fear. God’s children may walk boldly in the shadow of our Almighty Father.

God’s presence is our most secure habitation.
