I remember several years ago when I was bogged down in some painful circumstances and nearly missed one of God’s greatest blessings in my life. I think it’s amazing, that during the hard times, God has taken me by the hand and lead me through the blindness of my fear and pain and—into the blessings of His love.

God has amazing, universe-changing plans for each of us—even today! If you are hurting, God knows your pain—in fact, He knows it better than you can imagine. But He wants to bless you far beyond your comprehension. The Bible says:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with ALL spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians‬ ‭1:3‬)

Spiritual blessings come in many forms, however, they are, without exception, the best blessings because they give us joy even long after we receive them. And wouldn’t it be tragic to miss—even one?

I almost did.

You see, the day I received a call from a friend about a baby who was going to be born and needed to be adopted, I was having a horrible week. Because of the great sadness in my heart, I didn’t want to talk to anyone unless I had to. But God—He knew—and His Spirit took control and—I picked up the phone. From there, it was ALL HIM. I still shudder to think about how different things could have been had God not touched my heart during that funk and prompted me to return that call!

It doesn’t matter how much time passes, the blessed circumstances surrounding Patrick Henry’s adoption give me the same priceless joy. And every time I see the love and joy in Thomas and Arielle it nearly bursts my heart.

Patrick is a blessing that keeps on blessing and—I almost missed it!

God has extraordinary gifts planned for each of us.

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:9)

The day that call came in, I was sitting in my music room, broken hearted and feeling sorry for myself. I wasn’t praying or seeking God’s help. At that moment, I wasn’t “loving God,” but in His mercy and grace, God’s Spirit moved within me to make that phone call.

God taught me an amazing lesson that day.

God’s blessings flow to us when we love Him with all our heart; but, we WILL stumble, and when we do, His love bridges the gap and leads us back. God loved us before we had a thought of love. He IS love. We need to seek Him in loving obedience with all our our heart, soul and mind and—we will find blessings beyond our greatest imagination.

Patrick will always be a humbling reminder to me of how God allows even the most flawed of His children to be a part of His most enduring blessings!

I don’t want to miss even one–do you?
