When we are depressed, angry, hurt, anxious, or disappointed, and have lost our joy, rather than blame others, we must consider whether WE are the reason we’ve lost it. We like to blame a loss of joy on other people or circumstances however, WE have a choice about whether to enjoy the gift of joy which God gives us. Joy is different from happiness. Joy comes when you have a relationship with God and thus, make peace with WHO you are, WHY you are here, and HOW to live; whereas happiness tends to be externally triggered and is based on other people, things, places, thoughts and events.

Joy is not based upon circumstances or people—it’s based upon our unchanging, unshakable GOD.

God’s joy is “inexpressible and filled with glory.” (1 Peter‬ ‭1:8) HIS joy is “our strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10) Jesus said that in HIM “our joy will be full.” (John 16:24) These are promises from GOD, who does not lie; thus, when our joy is swept away by negative emotions, we have the power to change it

We need to reorder our loves to make Jesus the one we love most because if anything or anyone is a more vital source of joy to us than Him–we are setting ourselves up for disappointment.

God is the only one who doesn’t disappoint us. Could that be one of the many reasons that God commanded us to have “no other gods beside Him” (Exodus 20:2) and “love Him with ALL our heart, soul and mind?” (Matthew 22:37) To love anything else more than Him is sin. Sin separates us from God; and thus, separates us from only source of unwavering joy. Furthermore, we can’t play “victim” and allow sins like worry, anxiety, hurt feelings, depression, etc., to plague us because ALL sin steals joy! If we justify living like this because we claim to be a victim, we’re simply victimizing ourselves.

Christ conquered hell and made us victors–NOT victims.

When God becomes the center of our life, we are no longer victims. When we confess and forsake our worry, anxiety, unthankfulness, depression, unforgiveness and disappointment–He frees us from those dark clouds and teaches us to walk in His glorious joy. We know WHO we are; WHY we are here and HOW to live!

When Jesus is our center–we wear our joy from the inside–out!
