Are you choosing to live in the anxiety of the future instead of the peace of the present? Life pounds away at our soul and floods us with pain, confusion, and despair. Deadlines, angry people, failure, unfairness, loneliness, and heartbreaking trials—produce fear and anxiety and destroy our peace.

We don’t have to live this way!

The problems won’t just disappear; but Jesus promises us peace to live in this fallen world.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John‬ ‭14:27‬)

Do we live like we BELIEVE this amazing promise of God?

Possessing peace in a fallen world doesn’t mean we won’t have trouble; it means we let GOD to handle our trouble. To put it simply–if we are anxious about anything—it means we aren’t entrusting it to God. Why is that true? Because God isn’t anxious about anything.

If you’re like me, you often give yourself a pass for your anxiety and say something like, “I can’t help it–that’s just how I am. I am a worrier!” But when I say “I can’t help it”–I’m just lying to myself. The worst lies we tell are the ones we tell ourselves. IF I’m a child of God and IF His promises are true, then–I CAN help it–by turning it over to God.

The hard truth is that I just do NOT want God to help me because that means I also have to surrender to HIS way.

I’m afraid of God and what He wants from me.

Soooo….I’d rather do it my own way and carry the weight of the anxiety that accompanies my independence from Him. God has the answer for EVERY situation…but we don’t get HIS answers without HIS presence. Nor do we get His peace— without His presence!

Seeking Him daily means spending time reading and meditation upon His Word and spending time praying ways Jesus taught us to pray–in adoration, confession, supplication, intercession and thanksgiving. As we draw close to Him, we learn to entrust our life into His hands AND He gives us His peace. When the daily struggles arise, rather than engaging them in our own strength, we learn to give them to Him. God gives us the wisdom and strength we need to rise above the storm and see it as He does.

Knowing God gives us peace in the PRESENT about the FUTURE; because—He’s already been there.
