When God is our master, His love is so powerful that we desire to be imprisoned by Him—because He makes us so free!

You see, EVERYONE chooses a master.

Sometimes we choose evil masters–like the flesh, the world, and the devil–which enslave us and make us miserable. These masters eventually destroy us—just like methamphetamine destroys an addict. Read what Paul said on this subject:

“Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.” (‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:16-18‬)

When God is our master, He frees us from the bondage of these evil masters and gives us such satisfaction that we deeply desire to live in full subjection to Him. The experience of His love is so addicting that we never want to leave. God’s love produces a passion to please Him which replaces our desire to please ourselves with the pleasures which are enemies of our soul.

The Bible describes this transformation as:

“Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness.” (Romans 6:18)

When we realize that God as our master is better than the cruel king of our insatiable, fleshly desires–we are swept away by our passion to serve Him. We are freed by His love; yet, chained to it. God’s love becomes better to us than anything–even than life itself. The Psalmist wrote:

“Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.” (Psalms‬ ‭63:3‬)

Are you experiencing God’s love as being “better than life?”

I spent years chained by the evil masters before I discovered it. God does not force His love upon us, because–that’s not love. Love isn’t love—without WILLING surrender. Our free will enables us to experience both great love and great misery. It is the master we choose—that makes the difference.

We must choose our master.

When God is our Master, He frees us like we’ve never experienced. We realize just how miserable we’ve been when enslaved by worldly things like our career, the approval of others, success, money and even by seeking love and acceptance from other imperfect people like ourselves.

When we live in the freedom of God’s love, our greatest desire is to remain surrendered to Him because we’ve experienced His love!
