One day as I was praying, I realized that I seemed to be most thankful for and most concerned about my physical needs and blessings like—my job, health, physical sustenance, my family, and friends. What a revelation! Like a baby who prefers a $2.00 bottle of milk to a $50,000.00 diamond necklace, I seemed to have little concept of the value of my spiritual needs and blessings. My prayers seemed to be loudest and most passionate about my immediate physical needs because I believe those things will meet the needs of my soul for love, joy, peace, wisdom, and satisfaction?
This perspective changes radically when we draw close to God and experience the priceless value of a relationship with Him.
When our relationship with God becomes irreplaceable to us—we cry out to Him for HIS presence because we are hungry for His love, joy, peace, wisdom and power. We all must ask ourselves:
Do we desire God as intensely as we desire to find…a soulmate…to achieve a career goal…to own a home…to have good health…or to go on our next big vacation?
Remember, the PHYSICAL universe was created by our SPIRITUAL Father! When we grow to understand the pricelessness of God’s spiritual gifts then—our heart treasures the eternal things more than physical. We begin to understand that physical gifts are merely a carrier for His priceless treasures. Jesus said,
“For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.” (Luke 12:23)
Sustenance, health, and necessities are not the goal; they merely provide us the means to find our deeper satisfaction in a glorious relationship with God.
Paul the Apostle prayed for his friends in Christ to have knowledge of the—revelation, wisdom, hope, riches and power of God:
“I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might.” (Ephesians 1:16-19)
The priceless gifts should be our most frequent and fervent prayer requests!
When we become closer to God, He enlightens our heart to the desirability of His eternal gifts. Experiencing God’s presence gives us His rich, glorious, eternal perspective.
