Sometimes I wake up in the morning and think about all the things I don’t have that I want, or how I haven’t accomplished my goals and everyone else seems to be so far ahead of me and—these thoughts produce negative emotions in my soul, which, unless redirected—ruin my day. Redirecting my thoughts to God’s goodness is a sure way to get out of ANY depressing funk.
God wants to make your day wonderful!!!
God gives us ALL we need and He NEVER fails us. But He doesn’t force His goodness on us, so He waits for us to figure this out and return to Him. He has got so much goodness planned for each day! Remember:
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James 1:17)
ALL of our best gifts come from God!
When we replace those negative thoughts with a recount of God’s goodness it revives our soul and then we begin to praise Him like the Psalmist:
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalms 103:2-5)
You don’t know anyone who thought you were worth dying for AND who still thinks you are worthy of such marvelous blessings—do you?!?
Even the breath you just drew into your lungs is evidence of God’s goodness. As we discover His goodness, we find more and more reasons to praise Him and to keep Him close. His presence gives us our greatest security, peace, wisdom, love, and satisfaction. The Psalmist said,
“I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.” (Psalms 16:7-9)
When we are wrapped up in thoughts of God’s goodness, we live in consistent joy. He is the only One Who NEVER changes. We can ALWAYS depend on Him. When we are close to Him, He transforms us into someone stronger than we ever imagined.
God is the best part of who we are and He gives us every reason to live today with great joy!
