When life is crushing me, I rely very, very much on my deep connection with God for wisdom, comfort, and strength. But I don’t always feel that strong connection because I allow the connection to be broken. You see, just like you need an internet connection to search the internet; you need a God-connection to experience all the benefits of knowing Him!

So what is this “thing” that interferes with our connection to God?

“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
‭‭(Isaiah‬ ‭59:2‬)

Modern day Christianity has embraced “easy believism” which encourages people to believe in Christ for salvation but neglects the other vital part of salvation—that is, that we must also accept Him as Lord and Master!

This complete surrender applies not only to the salvation experience, but also in our daily walk with God. God is holy. When we pick and choose which of His commandments to obey—we lose that connection. It’s just like marriage. You would be out of your mind to go to the altar with someone who pledged to love you but added “I’m going to have a few boyfriends on the side.” What kind of marriage vow is that?!?

God doesn’t accept that kind of commitment either.

God knows our struggle with staying faithful to Him. But if we ask for His help, He works with us to develop a strong relationship that is better than anything unholy. If you don’t feel close to God, ask Him to reveal what things may be breaking your connection with Him.

For the heart that is truly repentant and desires to give up unholy habits, God is merciful and forgiving!

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John‬ ‭1:8-9‬)

The more we strive to live a holy life by reading God’s Word and developing a friendship with Him—the stronger our connection with Him gets. A strong connection with God is the most vital part of a healthy Christian life. When we’re close to God, His love transforms our desires and we gratefully position our heart in the place where our connection to Him is the strongest. The strength of our God-connection empowers us to become all He created us to be!
